This is relevant to my interests. Also, there is no shame in recommending your own lede image. If it will meet the minimum criteria for embiggening then I say have at it. I'd much rather look at a larger image than a smaller one.

I know mods can do this but I'm not sure if everybody else can.

Oh that, its a mystey, misterious big title headings appear and big images too, i like when they pick my posts. Id doesnt happen to often.
Some mods told me once it also depends on the picture linked, if its too small it cant be done. they said if i could find a bigger size of the picture it would be great.

Yes, this is true: The image has to be a minimum width of 640 pixels in order to be supersized. The title of the post, as you mentioned, will also go up a few font sizes.
